Why You Need a Zero Turn Lawn Mower

Your lawn should be a source of pride. It increases the curb appeal of your property. It provides a wonderful place for your family to enjoy the outdoors. It gives you a chance to show up the neighbors. However, most of us have better things to do than mow that lawn for hours, only to have to follow up with more time-consuming trimming. The good news is you don’t have to spend so much time on the chore if you invest in a zero turn lawn mower.

Why they are Different

A zero turn lawn mower isn’t like most types of mowers. In fact, it was not originally created for residential use. They were first developed for industrial use so they could efficiently cut large areas of grass without taking a lot of time. Eventually, homeowners began seeing the potential in making these same devices available for their needs. Read the rest of this entry »

Yard Machines 13AM772F000 lawn tractor

Yard Machines 13AM772F000 lawn tractorThe Yard Machines 13AM772F000 lawn tractor is one of the best budget riding mowers on the market. It sports a 15.5-hp Briggs & Stratton I/C engine, which is not particularly powerful when compared to the engines found in other lawn tractors. This engine is located at the front of the mower under what feels like a flimsy plastic covering; a heavy-duty box frame covers the remainder of the tractor. The 38-inch deck is relatively large and allows for a quick cut, as each pass covers a greater amount of yard. The 1.5-gallon fuel tank is small for a lawn tractor, which may be an issue for those with larger yards; you may find yourself having to fill up more often than you’d like. Cub Cadet SLT 1550 lawn tractor

Cub Cadet SLT 1550 lawn tractorThe 25-hp Kohler Courage V-twin overhead valve engine gives a lot of kick to the SLT 1550, while the hydrostatic transmission balances well with the power. This tractor features a top forward speed of 5.2 mph, and we were pleased to see that it is a strong climber. You’ll also find that this machine has some extra zip when the 50-inch mowing deck is removed. Speaking of the deck, the spring-assisted manual lift can adjust the cutting height from 1.5 to 4 inches; we find the deck to be stable at all positions. One issue we have with the SLT 1550, however, is that the draft from the cutting deck makes for inconsistent discharge; you may also encounter these issues when using the bagging attachments. The optimal mulching kit helps alleviate this problem to a degree, but the blast of clipping from under the mower can also be inconsistent. This is not necessarily a major issue and does not affect cut quality, but it is something to note for those who like to keep a tidy yard free of clippings. Read the rest of this entry »

Snapper LT300 LT2044 lawn tractorThough they are perhaps better known for their rear-engine models, Snapper brings excellent quality and comfort to their line of front-engine lawn tractors. The LT300 LT2044 is a mid-level mower, offering plenty of power and performance but skipping some of the top-end features of the company’s higher-priced models. Granted, it’s an expensive machine, but it’s a great option for those that have a large, rugged yard and want a versatile mower that will stand the test of time.

The LT300 LT2044 comes with a hearty 20-hp Briggs & Stratton Vanguard overhead valve engine and a K57 hydrostatic automatic transmission. The engine is much quieter then many other models, and the Automatic Controlled Traction (ATC) works well to keep users from getting mired in muddy areas. Read the rest of this entry »
